Luke WestburyOperations Manager at NEP Visions & Director & Co-Founder - A Greener Festival Lt
Whilst still at Bucks, I was lucky enough to work on various events and productions including the MTV Europe Music Awards, BRIT Awards and for various BBC Television programmes such as the National Lottery.
This led me to take a career path leaning more towards television than music – it made sense to make this decision at the time. In 2006 the music industry was having a difficult time in part due to illegal downloading and the vast decrease in physical sales.
My first full-time job was as a Production Coordinator for NEP Visions, working on Big Brother. I still work for NEP Visions today – although I did spend a year working for the BBC between 2007-2008. NEP Visions provide technical Outside Broadcast facilities to a number of prestigious clients including Sky (we cover all of Sky’s Premiership & Championship coverage), IMG, BBC, Endemol, ITV, Sunset & Vine, PokerStars, Two Four and National Theatre – filming anything from Wimbledon Tennis to ‘live to cinema’ theatre performances.
At the BBC I worked on all of their summer music festival coverage – working on site at Radio One’s Big Weekender, Glastonbury & Reading Festival.
I am now the Operations Manager at NEP Visions and responsible for keeping 11 expanding broadcast production trucks, 7 VT / edit vehicles and various associated tenders out on the road with the right equipment to deliver some of the largest televised events in the world. In recent years, we have covered the Royal Wedding, Wimbledon Tennis, Champions League Final (2011, 2013 & 2014) and currently providing host coverage at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
The best thing about the degree I earned at Bucks was the number of transferable skills it gave me. Despite the focus of the course being on the music industry (which is still relevant to television as a media industry), many of the key business concepts are crucial to any business environment. Accounting skills, negotiation theories, marketing concepts and economics/globalisation are all areas of study that I took away from Bucks and use on a day to day basis.
