Lynsey WallaceInternational Marketing Manager for Universal Music Group
Completed BA (Hons) Music Management & Artist Development, graduated in 2010.
I work for Universal Music Group as an International Marketing Manager. My main responsibility is to take US-signed artists and work with local Universal Music teams worldwide to ‘internationalise’ the artist from a ‘US artist’ into a ‘global artist’. This involves working with the US label (repertoire owner) and the local Universal teams worldwide to create marketing plans that will effectively break the artist in each territory. Another aspect of my job involves travelling with the music artists abroad for international promotion – such as TV and radio performances in Europe.
I began working at Universal Music International as an intern straight after university, for 6 months. I was then kept on as a Marketing Co-ordinator in the UK-International team (working with the likes of The Wanted and Pixie Lott), and have since had promotions to International Product Manager and more recently International Marketing Manager. Artists I have worked with during my recent roles include Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Rascal Flatts and Gregory Porter.
My desire to study at Bucks came from the strong reputation of the course, well-experienced lecturers and close-proximity to London. All of my lecturers held first-hand experience of working in the music industry, be it working at a record label or as a tour manager. They were able to give me real-life insight and advice of working in the industry which I found to be of great value. Bucks’ close proximity to London was ideal in allowing me to travel into London for work experience, which is imperative to successfully securing a full-time job in the industry. Throughout my three years at Bucks, I worked at building my industry contacts and secured work experience placements at independent record labels and other music companies.
